Create an adjustable camera mount for iPhone 4 (or any other phone with a smooth back), using an Ikea desk lamp

This is an easy build that will give you a steady mount for your smartphone for filming or taking photographs.

Add Note Edit Step 1 — iPhone 4 Camera Mount from Ikea Desk Lamp  ¶ 

  • Drill two 5mm holes about 10mm in from each end of the aluminium bars.

  • In one of the bars, drill two 3.5mm holes to match the lamp mount.

Add Note Edit Step 2  ¶ 

  • Remove the wire and the whole lamp assembly from the lamp. Retain the bolts that attach the mount to the lamp head.

  • Using pliers, slightly bend the mount so the bolt holes are flat.

Add Note Edit Step 3  ¶ 

  • Using the saved lamp bolts, bolt the 4-hole piece of aluminium bar to the lamp.

Add Note Edit Step 4  ¶ 

  • Bolt the suction cups to the 2-hole piece of aluminium bar with the 70mm bolts and 4 nuts.

Add Note Edit Step 5  ¶ 

  • Using 4 more nuts, bolt the suction cup part to the lamp mount, and you're all done!

Add Note Edit Step 6  ¶ 

  • Enjoy your new steady filming! This also works really well for mounting the iPhone as a video podcast camera.
